Amazing basketball opportunity

Amazing basketball opportunity

Mr Mouzer, Head of PE, writes…
On Friday night we took 42 students from year 7-11 to watch some top-level British basketball at Leicester as they took on the best team in the country, London Lions. The students had a fantastic time, as can be seen in the smiles below!
The aim of the trip was to inspire students to play more basketball – lower school training is on Thursdays until 4.30pm and Upper School on Tuesdays. It would be fantastic to see more students there.
Matt Lucas visits The Earls

Matt Lucas visits The Earls

On Wednesday 15th November, students at The Earls High School were feeling festive, with a visit from Matt Lucas, who was promoting his new children’s book ‘The Boy Who Slept Through Christmas’. Students from years 7 and 8 at The Earls were joined by students from other local primary and secondary schools to watch Matt’s presentation about what inspired him to write his book.
‘The Boy Who Slept Through Christmas’ is no ordinary book; it’s a musical novel! Throughout the book, there are QR codes which, when scanned, direct the reader to an original Christmas song written by Matt Lucas. Each session with Matt Lucas culminated in a performance of one of these songs by the Earls choir! Matt commented that he was ‘blown away’ by their performance and he was really impressed with all of the students he met.
The event was organised by the Dudley Children’s Book Group, who are planning to organise more author events in the near future.

A huge thank you goes to Dudley Children’s Book Group and everyone involved in organising the visit, to all of the children and staff who joined us, and to Matt and his team for a brilliant morning.

Black History Month

Well done to all of the students who paid tribute to a black icon as part of Black History Month.  Here’s a selection of the thoughtful and creative work produced.

As part of our Black History Month celebrations,  Year 7 enjoyed a film screening of The Princess and the Frog. They tucked into popcorn, and hot chocolate with Marshmallows too! We had a lovely time.
