Halesowen Community Carols

Halesowen Community Carols

On Thursday, choirs from 11 schools across Halesowen and Dudley came together to perform their annual Community Carols in Somers Square. Accompanied by The Earls Brass ensemble, over 350 pupils and students got to sing well known Christmas carols.

The event was a huge success, and it was wonderful to be able to bring schools from across the town together and create some real festive sprit!

Christmas Carol Service

Christmas Carol Service

On Tuesday 12th December The Earls students got themselves ready to join together for this year’s Carol Service. With a staggering 174 students involved it was a truly spectacular event. We got to hear from the school samba band, choir, brass ensemble, chamber choir, orchestra, MFL singers, guitar ensemble, readers and Jazz ensemble. Their performances were both polished and full of energy, and we have received many comments from our parents and the local community, praising the skill of our students and the lovely atmosphere that was created. Everyone left feeling very Christmassy!

We are already looking forward to our summer events during 2024.

Year 11 Performing Arts Trip: Backstage Tours, London

Year 11 Performing Arts Trip: Backstage Tours, London

Year 11 GCSE Drama, Music and Dance students were lucky enough to experience a theatrical day of magic in London.

They visited the Royal Albert Hall, where they sat in one of the prestigious boxes, whilst Jamie’s Cullum’s band completed a sound check. They also undertook a guided tour of the Hall, finding out about the workings of a professional performance venue. The hall was breath taking in its size and beauty!

After a short coach ride taking in the sights of London, students then participated in a guided tour of The National Theatre on the South Bank. They learnt about the importance of the Olivier, Lyttleton and Dorfman theatres (3 under one roof!) in continuing to create experimental, world class theatre for all. Students also had the opportunity to go backstage, looking at how sets, props costumes and wigs are made.

A wonderful day was had by all; well done Year 11!

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

A group of Earls students were lucky enough to see a fantastic performance of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at The Birmingham Rep.  The staging, acting and music were incredible, and our students were an absolute credit to us.  We were also very lucky to bump into one of the lead actors outside the theatre who stopped and had selfies with all of us! It was the perfect way to start our Christmas festivities.

Public speaking success!

Public speaking success!

On Thursday last week, two year ten students, Malia and Zahra, competed in the English Speaking Union’s public speaking competition. Malia, as speaker, gave a 5 minute speech on systemic change in society; while Zahra fulfilled two roles: chair and questioner. Both students won the first round, competing against schools in the local area and are now looking forward to the next round of the competition in the new year. Congratulations to both girls, and thank you to Mr McDonough for supporting them!
