Silver Qualifying expedition for Duke of Edinburgh Award

Silver Qualifying expedition for Duke of Edinburgh Award

‘This week the year 10’s are completing their Silver Qualifying expedition for their Duke of Edinburgh Award. All students have been fantastic and managed to navigate themselves across some tough terrain on the Long Mynd. There cooking skills have been mixed from adding water to a pot noodle to bacon sandwiches as well as some lovely home cooked food from parents that just needed reheating and cooking pasta. I am sure they are all looking forward to some well earned sleep and to put their feet up.
New intake transition days

New intake transition days

We have had a fantastic time with our new Year 6 intake over the last two days, and they have given us a great first impression of themselves.

These photos are from one of a series of transition lessons that the students have experienced. We are looking forward to them joining us in September.

Little Big Band

Little Big Band

Wednesday the 3rd of July marked the Music Department’s Little Big Band Awards! This commemorated a year of hard work from September, rehearsing every Wednesday from 2:55-4:00, eventually playing in two concerts!
The Little Big Band played admirably to an incredibly high standard for students who have only played for a year.  Incoming year 7 students keep a lookout for the extra-curricular timetable to see what else you can get involved in at the Earls High School.

Summer Concert Success!

Summer Concert Success!

On Tuesday 25th June it was the Earls High School Summer Concert, which featured a grand total of 158 students! The performances featured exquisite talent from our ensembles, playing well-known pieces such as, Smells Like Teen Spirit (Guitar Ensemble), I Got You (Jazz Band), Just The Way You Are (Choir) and A James Bond Medley (Orchestra).
The concert also featured collaborations between our ensembles such as The Final Countdown played by our Orchestra and Year 7 Little Big Band who have gone on a journey from playing their first note on their instruments in September, to a well-attended concert, all in a school year!
The concert was concluded with a massive cooperation between the ensembles performing a fan favourite – Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. All students played a massive role in this years’ concert and smiles were all around!
All extra-curricular activities will continue in September, so keep a lookout for posters to see when each ensemble is on!

The day was finished off by an excellent performance from the Earls Jazz Band performing fan favourites such as Tequila!
