To celebrate the completion of a major half a million pounds refurbishment programme, The Earls High School will be sending a message to future students of the school.  The message will be one of many items placed inside a special time capsule that was buried in the school grounds on Wednesday 21st October 2009.

Sophie (Yr10) and Lauren (Yr9) won a competition organised by Mr Bassett (Head of Humanities) to decide which articles should be included in the time capsule.  They chose many items which reflect life in their own time, including local, national and international news.

The refurbishment programme has transformed the turn of the century building.  The school now has a sixth form centre, new purpose built classrooms, new school gates, new drive and parking spaces, new windows and doors and a new reception building.

Mr John Bassett, Head of Humanities, said of the event:

"Everyone at The Earls High School has been amazed by the physical transformation in the school.  The new building work has really spruced up the old school and we are all very proud of how smart we now look.  The students wanted to celebrate their new look school in some way and came up with this great idea to bury a time capsule underneath the new reception building."

The Earls High School is a Specialist College in the Performing Arts and Languages.  It has provided excellent educational opportunities to the people of Halesowen since its inception in 1652.  The school achieved its second best ever examination results in the summer of 2009 and is on course to achieve its best ever results - 77% - this year.
