Earls Summer Music Festival 2009

WOW!  What a fantastic night we all had on Tuesday (23rd June 2009) at the Summer Music Festival.  Parents, audience, staff, friends and most of all the students experienced a real treat.

The concert programme took in a variety of genres including a beautiful harp solo (Hannah Parker), to a highly technical and impressive drum kit solo (Emily Holland) right through to a mind-blowing electric guitar solo (Adam Barker).

The choir took on a massive challenge in 'Come What May' and did themselves great credit and followed this up with a rousing medley from Mamma Mia.  (Soloists were Scott Colcombe, Philippa Coley and Michelle Jones).  Lacisum were simply awesome with their accapella programme.

The Jazz and Soul bands livened us all up and got the feet tapping with original versions of 'I Feel Good', 'Dancing in the Street' and 'Son of a Preacher'.

The Little Big Band played delightfully as always and showed yet again the success of the Wider Opportunities Project and the evening finished with The Earls Wind Band which has grown both in number, stature and quality over the past twelve months.  EWB rocked the house with 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love', a medley from 'The Little Mermaid' and finished with a stunning performance of 'Live and Let Die'.

The encore was a noisy but equally brilliant rendition of 'Celebrate Good Times Come on!'.  This involved all the students and even the audience had a go!

Richard Toomer (Head of Music) commented:

'We are all very, very proud of the musicians who performed here this evening.  They showed great confidence and professionalism in the way they played and sang.  I hope the students feel as proud as we do.  Well done everybody!'.
