The Earls High School, Specialist College in the Performing Arts, will be hosting its second Arts Week on 9th March through to 13th March 2009.
A rich and varied programme has been put together including concerts, recitals and workshops experiencing genres from both ends of the artistic spectrum - from jazz to salsa.
The week begins with a recital evening at the school showcasing the very best of GCSE music, drama and dance work. On Thursday evening is the gig of the century - 'Earls Amped'. This is a student organised charity gig raising money for comic relief. On Friday over 40 students will be off to the West End to see a live performance of Wicked!.
Throughout the week there will be workshops open to students and staff. These include a vocal workshop, salsa workshops and drama workshops. There will be assemblies for students to show off their talents to the other students which will also include a performance from our very own Little Big Band.
The Arts Week will involve lots and lots of young musicians, dancers and actors performing to a variety of audiences.
Mr. Toomer, Head of Music said:
"Last year was a tremendous success and we expect this year to be just as good. There is more of a focus this year on getting involved - so students of all experiences will have the chance to celebrate the arts. More of our students will get to see the performances this year and for those lucy enough to be going to London to see 'Wicked' on Friday, will have an unforgettable day. The Arts at Earls is vibrant and encompasses a wide range of genres and tastes. Well done kids, well done staff - Let's celebrate!"
