(December 2009)
On the evening of Friday 27th November 2009 Earls Collegiate students slept 'rough' in the school hall to raise money for Crisis at Christmas.
The Charity aims to end homelessness by delivering life-changing experiences.
Christmas is a particularly difficult time for homeless people, many of whom have no family. By providing centres at Christmas, Crisis aims to help people take their first steps out of homelessness.
Mrs Begley (Senior Tutor of the Earls Collegiate) would like to thank Ms Murray, Mr Meacher and Mr Ridley for their support and congratulate all the students who took part for giving up their time to help others and their great humour throughout.
It is hoped that we will raise over £500.
Mrs Begley
The vinvolved scheme is a National Award to encourage young people aged 16-25 years to get positively involved in their communities by doing voluntary work.
The students are awarded a certificate after they have completed 50 hours of volunteering. Six of our students have all gained certificates for volunteering in school and on other community projects.
These were presented on Monday 22nd March 2010 by Earls High School Principal Mr Tom Johnston and Ms Zoe Yeomans, Youth Volunteer Adviser for vinvolved.
Some of our Collegiate students will now begin working for the prestigious Impact Award which involves 150 hours of volunteering that has a measurable impact on the community.
