Classical music experience!

Another year and another fantastic day for our year 7s to see the CBSO at Symphony Hall! The students heard familiar pieces such as Bolero and the Harry’s Wonderous World from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Students described the day as ‘spectacular’ and ‘enthralling’. A truly inspiring day for the cohort with a newfound love for orchestral music!

Final breakfast this morning! The pancakes 🥞 that have been a morning staple for most students were enjoyed for the last time! I did joke with the pancake chef this morning that he will be out of a job tomorrow when there is not a queue of 30 hungry students to cook for!
After breakfast, students enjoyed a final splash in the pool, then there was just time to pack and take a group picture!
We have made it through the airport checks and we are now waiting at the gate area. Our flight is scheduled for take off on time, so we should arrive back in the Uk at the expected time! I will email parents but we are hoping that our ETA at Earls will be 1:30am!

Gambia, an AMAZING country, until next time….!

PROJECT GAMBIA – Day 7

Mrs Sevier writes…
Well, marvellous Monday has been quite emotional. I think everyone was feeling the reality of the fact that we have to return to the UK tomorrow and that today was the last chance to work with some of the most fantastic children The Gambia has to offer. Lots of the students have registered the fact that these children are very happy and full of life, even though they have absolutely nothing. Love and people, both family and friends as well as communities, are fundamentals here!
This morning some students went to St. Joseph’s to work with students whilst others went to Wisdom School.
This afternoon a group of 12 students went to complete the painting project whilst the others returned to Omega School.

From this…                                                              …to this!
Following this, students had a final trip to the supermarket (mango juice may be a firm favourite on shopping lists from here on) and then a quick stop at the ice cream parlour!
The students had a great time in the pool this evening and we combined swimming with an Earls karaoke session… how fortunate for all the other guests in the hotel! 🤣

We have just enjoyed our final evening meal together at the hotel and now there is live entertainment for the students to enjoy.

After a looooong day of travelling, we all arrived safely in The Gambia. Students did exceptionally well, considering how sleep deprived we all were by the end of the day! The day finished off with dinner and some fantastic live entertainment, which saw our students moving and grooving to the beats!

Fundraising from The Earls High School Students

Fundraising from The Earls High School Students

On the last day of a very long Autumn term, Mrs Sevier was delighted to make a special delivery to The Mary Stevens Hospice in the form of a large donation for this worthy charity.

Students of The Earls raised well over £2000. Donations from Christmas Jumper Day, the collection at The Carol Service and sponsorship for the reindeer run all contributed.

It was fantastic to see students so willing to contribute and give during the festive period.

A huge thank you to all students involved!

The Lion King

The Lion King

The Dance Department were delighted to take 38 students from Year 8 – 11 to see  The Lion King at the Birmingham Hippodrome on Thursday 7th September 2023. “Set against the majesty of the Serengeti to the evocative rhythms of Africa, THE LION KING tells the story of Simba’s epic journey to fulfil his destiny as King of the Pride lands”  (Birmingham Hippodrome)

This impressive, colourful, musical masterpiece, with its remarkable puppetry was thoroughly enjoyed by all the students and staff alike. We all left the theatre utterly thrilled by this musical theatre experience.  The students on the trip were a delight and were complimented on their excellent behaviour by members of the public.

A Year 10 students’ thoughts on The Lion King trip:

The production started at 7.30pm and ended at 10.00pm at the Birmingham Hippodrome.  We took the coach to the theatre from school. It was good vibes, everyone was laughing and anticipating the amazing show we were about to watch.

Picture of the character Scar

The lights and costume reflected each character perfectly.  Scar was portrayed as bone like to represent his bitter and cold attitude. Sharp claws and spikes to show his ruthless acts like Mufasa’s death.  Scar’s movements were quick and sharp to portray his character.

Picture of Simba and Nala

Nala and Simba, their dance moves were quick and fluent to show their love when they are together and when they are apart their movements are slower and softer.
