On Tuesday 11th February, our year 7s were treated to an inspiring trip to Symphony Hall to watch the CBSO perform an eclectic mix of musical pieces. With balcony seats, they had a spectacular view as the CBSO introduced the 4 instrumental families of the orchestra, demonstrating the wonderful range of sounds that the instruments can create. The performance took students around the world, from Ireland with Lord of the Dance, to Russia with music from Swan Lake. Students were energised when they heard famous, recognisable melodies including those from Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean! Another phenomenal experience for our students that really brings to life what is learnt during Music lessons in the classroom

We took two teams over to Aston University for the F1 in schools regional finals.
Although none of the teams managed to get into the top three and qualify for the national finals, they did really well against tough opposition, who have budgets that we will always find difficult to compete against.
Volt racing finished 10th out of 24 in the development class while Wheelie Fast finished 8th out of 24 in the professional class. Students were also praised by the judges for the quality of their verbal presentations.
The students really enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to future competitions.

Aspiring Year 11 students were lucky enough to get a tour of two prestigious colleges at Oxford University: Oriel and Mansfield. Students were guided through the application process, student life, and how to choose a course, plus Q&A with current undergraduates.
After lunch they visited Mansfield college, where they were given a guided tour by an ex – Earls student in their second year studying History. Then time for a quick tour of some of Oxford’s many beautiful buildings, before the coach journey back home.
Students were exemplary in their attitude and behaviour and the outreach officer from Oxford University said she would have no hesitation in hosting us again.
Well done everyone for making it such a lovely day.
Mrs Clifford and Mr Baker

We were delighted to have been awarded the Artsmark Gold this week, thanks to the dedication of the arts team led by Mr Hickman. We are the only school in Dudley to have achieved this prestigious award, which recognises the contribution of the arts to the development of young people.
‘’Being an Artsmark school demonstrates that through offering a broad, balanced and creative curriculum, young people have the opportunity to develop character and talent and increase their knowledge, curiosity and skills that will remain with them as they go through adult life.’’ Dr Darren Henley CBE, Chief Executive, Arts Council England.
The assessors also noted that ‘The Earls High School offers an impressive array of arts learning opportunities for students’ and that we ‘have multiple areas of strength, including CPD, Values and Ethos. You are a school committed to improving and innovating, and the arts are core to your ways of working’.
At The Earls we have long recognised the importance of all forms of creativity for our students, and we are extremely proud to have achieved this award.
