The Earls achieves Artsmark Gold Award

The Earls achieves Artsmark Gold Award

We were delighted to have been awarded the Artsmark Gold this week, thanks to the dedication of the arts team led by Mr Hickman. We are the only school in Dudley to have achieved this prestigious award, which recognises the contribution of the arts to the development of young people.

‘’Being an Artsmark school demonstrates that through offering a broad, balanced and creative curriculum, young people have the opportunity to develop character and talent and increase their knowledge, curiosity and skills that will remain with them as they go through adult life.’’ Dr Darren Henley CBE, Chief Executive, Arts Council England.

The assessors also noted that ‘The Earls High School offers an impressive array of arts learning opportunities for students’ and that we have multiple areas of strength, including CPD, Values and Ethos. You are a school committed to improving and innovating, and the arts are core to your ways of working’.

At The Earls we have long recognised the importance of all forms of creativity for our students, and we are extremely proud to have achieved this award.

Year 8 Master the Art of Vector Graphics in ICT and Computing

In their ICT and Computing lessons, Year 8 students have been diving into the creative world of vector graphics. This exciting unit challenges learners to design professional-quality graphics using specialised vector graphic editing software.  Throughout the unit, students have been honing their skills with Inkscape, a powerful, open-source, cross-platform tool.  By the end of the course, students will have created impressive projects, including illustrations, logos, or custom icons.

Over the past few weeks, the students have demonstrated fantastic progress, with many producing work of exceptional quality. Here are some standout examples of their creativity and skill.

We’re incredibly proud of the effort and imagination our Year 8 learners have shown in mastering this challenging yet rewarding skill. Keep up the great work

This year’s Carol Service took place on Tuesday 3rd December, in the beautiful setting of St John the Baptist Church.  We were delighted to hear performances from the Choir, Brass Ensemble, Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble, Chamber Choir, Jazz Ensemble, Samba, String Ensemble, MFL Singers, and Year 7 Big Sing. Well done to all 180 of The Earls students that worked hard to provide us with an enjoyable evening of festive music, performed so musically and to the highest standard. We look forward to continuing to work with so many talented and dedicated musicians as we prepare for the Community Carols event on Friday 13th December and for more exciting events in 2025!

Paris Trip Day 3

Today was spent at the brilliant Parc Astérix, a theme park just outside Paris. Students and staff had fun on the rollercoasters, tasting lots of delicious food and buying souvenirs.

On our return to the centre, following another good meal, we had a go at making our own crêpes – it was clear that some had more experience in the kitchen than others, but everyone had fun!

The students have been absolutely excellent; they have been great company, engaging brilliantly in all of the activities, being polite and respectful to the staff at the centre and a credit to their families.

Tomorrow morning, we are setting our alarms early, to start our return journey home. We will keep parents informed of our expected arrival time.
