Dovedale Dash

Dovedale Dash

Year 8 student Bradley Rowley won the Dovedale Dash under 14s category and came 6th in under 18s. It was a 4.7 mile cross country race through rivers and intense hills over the peak district. He also did this as a fundraiser for 4Louis and Birmingham Children’s Hospital raising over £700 in total. Bradley is a talented young runner and runs as part of the schools GCSE cross country club despite his young age.

Martial Arts Success

Martial Arts Success

Recently, year 10 student Dominic went to Harlow to compete in the Elite Open International Karate Championship, where he came back with a Bronze and a Silver medal. He followed this up with a trip to Romania last Saturday. Having made it to the bronze medal fight, he just missed out on the medal with the final score being 6-6. The other fighter scored the first point so gained the medal. While there, Dominic also had the chance to attend a seminar with a Hungarian Olympic medallist and world and European vice champion. This was a fantastic experience for him, and we are all very proud of his success.

Macmillan coffee event

Macmillan coffee event

On Friday afternoon last week we held our Macmillan Coffee Morning, which was actually a coffee afternoon. We had an overwhelming number of donations from our fantastic Year 7 bakers, and despite the impending arrival of Storm Amy, welcomed lots of visitors after school to enjoy them. All cakes were tasted by Mrs Bryant and our Junior leadership team (it’s a tough job!), and the prestigious Star Baker prizes awarded.

Thanks to your generous donations we raised £500 for the charity, which is just brilliant.

New facilities

New facilities

School was a hive of activity over the summer break, with a large number of contractors on site improving the facilities for our community. As well as ongoing safety and maintenance work, we now have two more refurbished science labs, a brand-new art room, a new ICT suite dedicated to engineering and technology and a new all-weather PE space in the centre of B block. These spaces will greatly enhance the learning of our students over the coming years. A big thank you to our wonderful facilities team for all their work and co-ordinating all the contractors on site.

GCSE Results Celebrations

GCSE Results Celebrations

Students at The Earls High School in Halesowen have celebrated an excellent set of GCSE results today, and we are delighted by their achievements. One in 3 grades were awarded at Grade 7 or above, 75% of students achieved a standard pass at Grade 4 or above in English and maths, and 47% achieved a strong pass at Grade 5 or above in these subjects.

Headteacher Nic Hirsch said, ‘We are all very proud of what our students have achieved. They have demonstrated commitment and resilience throughout their time at The Earls, and these results are the reward for their own hard work, but also the belief and dedication of staff at school, the excellent start that they had at our local primary schools and the support and encouragement of their families.

Three students – Elliot Bishop, Simon Cockling and Zahra Gul – all achieved an impressive 11 GCSEs at Grade 9, and there were further fantastic achievements across the board, particularly from Violet Crowton, Finley Smith, Harry Thomas and Malia Dayus, Isabella Hughes-Rowlands, William Mosedale  and Kate Maloney.

We are proud of the wonderful young people they have become, and know that they will continue to make a positive contribution to our local community. We are confident that they will thrive in their next steps and wish them all the best for the future.’

Design and technology Exhibition

Design and technology Exhibition

The Earls Art and Design Technology Summer Exhibition took place Wednesday 16th July. The evening was a well-attended celebration of our students work from across Fine Art, Textiles, RM, Food and Engineering.  The Music department provided an uplifting showcase contributing to an enjoyable evening.
We are extremely proud of all our students whose work was on display; it was a showcase of our student’s and staff’s hard work, talent and breadth of skills.
Special thanks to all the Tech and Music staff for making the event possible and Mrs Kusinska for her very artist charcuterie boards.
