Author and illustrator Candy Gourlay has been into school to lead a writing workshop with Yr 9 and Yr 7 students. She showed them how to use story-boarding to help develop ideas. Candy encouraged students to develop their characters by using comic strip panels and following a three act structure. Students then worked together to create some fantastic ideas, including a doctor with a dark family secret who must go back in time to save the world and a mind reading dog who goes on a quest to become human. Later that evening, Candy read extracts from her new book ‘Bone Talk’ at the Dudley Children’s Book Group event in the school library. Students got to ask questions about how she became a writer and Candy signed copies of ‘Bone Talk’. The students found it a really fun and worthwhile experience. Thanks Candy!
