Dear students, parents and carers,
Welcome to the Year 9 Options Information process. This is an exciting and daunting time as students begin to consider their adult working lives and what subjects they will study over the next two years.
Starting with the Options Information Assembly, students have just over a month to choose their options. They will be supported in lessons by both their subject teachers and their form tutors. It is important that you will join us, with your child for the Options Information Evening on Thursday 6th February followed by the Year 9 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 27th February. The first evening gives you information about the options process and subjects on offer, whilst the second provides the personalised feedback from subject teachers about the potential for progress in the subjects students are interested in pursuing.
We want our students to achieve the best possible outcomes so that they can confidently participate in a new global workplace. It is also essential that students choose a broad and balanced curriculum so that they are not closing off future educational or careers options at this early stage. For this reason choices are partially focused. Many of our students will study the English Baccalaureate combination of a Language and Geography or History; we also encourage all students to consider a creative subject as the skills developed in these are in high demand by employers.
We try to be as flexible as timetable and staffing allow in meeting options requests but students will need to have reserve choices as we occasionally have to use them. We may also have to remove options or change courses in response to educational change or to better meet the needs of groups of students.
I look forward to seeing you at both of our information meetings and I wish all Year 9 students every success in their future choices.
Mr Jamie Fox
