On Tuesday 9th July, a group of Arts Award students attended a trip to Birmingham where they had a backstage tour at the Birmingham Rep, followed by an afternoon exploring the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. This trip ensured that students could review an arts event for their Bronze and Silver portfolios.
The backstage tour at the Birmingham Rep was really interesting and showed students how many different job roles there is behind the scenes in theatre. They learnt about the history of the theatre and had lots of information about all the various workshops that are there. The Rep makes a lot of its own set, costume and prosthetic and we got to see some work in progress for Peter Pan. The students favourite part of this was seeing the prosthetics made for the BFG and even seeing a prosthetic head they made for the end of Macbeth when he is beheaded.
In the Museum, the students got the chance to explore the different art and various exhibitions there. The students really enjoyed this, particularly looking at a variety of different art styles.
Throughout the day, students were exceptionally behaved and our tour guides at the Rep told us that they were fantastic and an absolute credit to the school.
