The Earls High School Excellence – Care – Partnership

English Speaking Union public speaking competition

On Saturday 20th January, six of our KS4 students (Olga Groves, George Davis-Prinn, Tom Kendrick, Megan Adams, Ellie Ricci and Amy Rae Harris) braved the snowy conditions to represent The Earls in a national public speaking competition at Solihull School run by the English-Speaking Union. Topics up for debate included: ‘Is the UK failing those with disabilities?’ and ‘Would owning less and sharing more make us wealthier?’ Although the competition was an incredibly fierce one, all of our students did very well and Ellie Ricci was awarded ‘Best Speaker’ in her round!
If you are interested in developing your public speaking skills in a competition like this, please pop and see Miss Mahoney or Mrs Sparkes in the English Department.
