The Earls High School Excellence – Care – Partnership

Masterclass with Concert Pianist Richard Meyrick.

We were thrilled to invite Concert Pianist, Richard Meyrick to the school today, to run a performance workshop with our instrumental and vocal learners.
Five students braved an audience to face musical critic of their examination pieces. The progress already made by these students in the session was excellent. Students learned the impact of movement in Music and how to command an audience, even before the first note is ever played.

There were many laughs as students were put through their paces, answering numerous philosophical questions to do with why they play specific pieces and several raised eyebrows just to indicate the start of a new melodic phrase!

We were introduced to a variety of works by Chopin, Mozart and Tchaikovsky as Meyrick played for us, taking us on a whistle-stop tour of memorised pieces to whet the appetite of further listening to these great composers.

Most importantly we were all reminded of the power of practise and why music plays a pitch-perfect role in all of our lives.
