On Thursday 18th May, one hundred Year 9 students boarded coaches to go and spend the day at Sandwell College to have a taster experience of vocational courses offered at key stage 5.
Students participated in a variety of sessions such as Motor Vehicle studies, Health and Social Care, Travel and Tourism, Hair and Beauty, Fashion, Public Services and many more. Students were well behaved and represented The Earls High School in a really positive manner.
A couple of weeks ago, a company called ‘How2Become’ sent us lots of new material to have in our careers corner of the library. Information about how to access certain careers as well as information about interview techniques, application form advice and pre-entry tests for different jobs. Students are welcome to use the careers corner of the library at anytime which is equipped with a wealth of information about careers, all the local colleges and sixth form providers as well as all of the local universities. Information about apprenticeships and up and coming events in the local area connected to careers.
Meanwhile, on Friday each week, one of our Year 10 tutor groups have been completing a careers Kudos session.Theses sessions have been designed for students to explore different avenues and consider a variety of careers, potentially, careers they have never heard of! More importantly, they can then research the best way to reach their career goals.
In July we have arranged an enterprise day for all of year 9, and two taster sessions for Year 10 students at Halesowen College. If you have any further questions or queries about careers, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Mrs Sevier.
